Happy Memorial Day Weekend.
Normally on this weekend my college team (Sacred Heart University) is playing in our conference tournament and I'm so locked into that, I don't have time to think about anything else.
But while this was a rare bad year for our program, it did free me up to be able to be at my son's prom pictures and see his high school team win their conference championship.
And while this email isn't meant to be about me, I have not written in quite a while and this mailing list has grown by several thousand since my last communication.
So first off, who is Wayne Mazzoni, and what is D1 Pitching Academy...
Enough about me.
Most of my readers are either high school age baseball players or their parents and coaches trying to both develop their talent to the best of their ability, along with navigate the insane process of recruiting, summer teams, showcases, and on and on.
If this is you, or your son, player on your team, or someone you care about helping, consider me a resource.
Feel free to write back with any questions regarding your particular situation.
If you have time this holiday weekend, take a look at a one page sheet I wrote up recently that has gotten great feedback.
10 Things I Need To See In My Pitching Recruits.
If that one pager seems like it would help you, you might want to consider doing a live zoom, College Development Evaluation session with me.
On this call, I learn about your past pitching, your current development plan, future pitching goals, and then do a pitching analysis on your video.
I've done hundreds of these meetings and pitchers and their parents/coaches find it helpful to get insight from someone with my recruiting and coaching experience.
Thanks for your time, have a wonderful weekend, and reach out if you feel you need it.

So let's get straight to the point, the first thing coaches want is athletic talent. The coaches goal is to win and to do that, you need talent. But right after the coach knows the player has the skill, it's time to find out if this player has the grades to get into the school. If not, it doesn't matter how talented they are. So the coach will ask you for a transcript. The transcript, unofficial is fine, should be something all serious college-bound high school kids have up to date on their...
